Pink Floyd's 1987 comeback A Momentary Lapse of Reason, David Gilmour's big, glossy return: "Learning to Fly," "On the Turning Away" and "Sorrow."
A Momentary Lapse of Reason brought Pink Floyd back to stadiums worldwide, with "Learning to Fly" becoming one of their most played songs of the decade.
Not every band gets a second act. After Roger Waters left in 1985, David Gilmour took the wheel, recorded largely on his houseboat studio, the Astoria, and brought Richard Wright back into the fold. The result is a lush, atmospheric record built for big rooms.
"Learning to Fly" soars on Gilmour's chiming guitar and Nick Mason's drums, "On the Turning Away" builds to one of his greatest solos, "Sorrow" is dark and enormous, and "Signs of Life" opens with a gentle, rippling instrumental.
The album sold millions. It's the sound of Pink Floyd reinventing itself with Gilmour's melodic touch front and centre.
