About the album

Pink Floyd made albums meant to be heard whole, which makes a best-of a curious thing. A Foot in the Door started life as part of the band's big 2011 remastering campaign, a door-opener for anyone who wanted the shape of the story before committing to the full sets, and it came to vinyl in 2018.

The running order skips around the decades rather than marching through them, so "Hey You" leads into Syd Barrett's "See Emily Play," and "The Happiest Days of Our Lives" sets up "Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2" just as it does on The Wall. "Have a Cigar," "Wish You Were Here" and an edit of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" stand in for 1975, while "Time," "The Great Gig in the Sky," "Money," "Brain Damage" and "Eclipse" bring a good chunk of The Dark Side of the Moon. The later years get "Learning to Fly" and "High Hopes," and "The Fletcher Memorial Home" flies the flag for The Final Cut.

It's an easy first step for newcomers, and a handy one for anyone who wants Floyd on a Sunday afternoon without the full four-sides-per-album commitment. Consider it the trailer; the feature films are in the next rack over.
