Panda Bear and Sonic Boom's second album together, A ? of When, in an embossed sleeve, with "Never Givin' In," "Lucky Charm" and "Graveyard."
This LP comes in an embossed cover. Animal Collective's Panda Bear and Spacemen 3's Sonic Boom follow their 2022 debut Reset with a record they describe as more rock 'n' roll than digital scrolling.
Most albums turn up on every streaming service at midnight. This one arrived in July 2026 on vinyl, CD, cassette and download first, and that suited the subject matter. Noah Lennox and Peter Kember built it as a deliberate step away from life online, writing about screen fatigue, low moods and the natural world, and they previewed it with a Record Store Day single of "Graveyard" and "Lucky Charm" sold in shops only.
The two share production, with Lennox on bass, keyboards and steel drums and Kember on keyboards, timpani and effects, both of them singing. Mary Lattimore adds harp, Zena Kay plays pedal steel, Daniel O'Sullivan chips in on several instruments, and Mexico City's Mariachi 2000 de Cutberto-Pérez, who once remixed Reset with the pair, return as guests. "Never Givin' In" opens the record, the title track drifts in a psychedelic haze, "Pray to You" and "Be the Bridge" keep the melodies front and centre, and "Graveyard" closes things out.
Lennox has worked with everyone from Daft Punk to Dean Blunt, but this partnership keeps drawing him back. If the whole point is to log off for a while, a turntable is about the best excuse going; nobody has ever doom-scrolled a record sleeve.
