About the album

Olivia Dean got her middle name from Lauryn Hill and grew up dancing round the kitchen to Carole King and Al Green, so the warmth in her voice comes honestly. Growth is the EP she made on the way up, after her single "OK Love You Bye" had people paying attention and before her debut album Messy earned a Mercury nomination.

Five songs, all built on her soulful, easygoing delivery. "Be My Own Boyfriend" is a breezy declaration of independence, "Slowly" and "Cross My Mind" glide on soft, jazzy chords, "Fall Again" is wistful, and "Float" brings things to a gentle close.

Since then she has picked up four Brit Awards. Growing up dancing round the kitchen to Carole King and Al Green seems to have been a thoroughly sound education.
