About the album

Six years is a long gap in anyone's book, and Trent Reznor used it to strip things back. After the sprawling double album The Fragile, With Teeth came out in May 2005 sounding tight, direct and built around songs rather than soundscapes, with Reznor writing, arranging and performing nearly everything himself.

He produced it with Alan Moulder, with Atticus Ross adding production and sound design, across Nothing Studios in New Orleans and Los Angeles rooms including Sound City and The Village. Dave Grohl sits behind the kit on much of the record, which gives it real swing and a live-room punch. Reznor sounds focused and hungry, and the songs are some of the most direct he's ever written. "The Hand That Feeds" is the big, stomping single, "Every Day Is Exactly the Same" broods beautifully, "Love Is Not Enough" hits hard and "Sunspots" grooves, and "Beside You in Time" and "Right Where It Belongs" close things out in a slow, eerie glow.

The Definitive Edition sticker promises "lots of details attended to that you may never notice but we care about." We can't speak for the details, but we noticed the second record.
