Nancy Sinatra's 1966 debut Boots on blue swirl vinyl from Light in the Attic, with "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'" and her takes on "Day Tripper" and "As Tears Go By."
Light in the Attic's numbered edition comes on blue swirl vinyl with an obi strip and a 20-page booklet. Boots reached No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and went gold, and its title song topped both the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK singles chart.
Lee Hazlewood wrote "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'," handed it to Nancy Sinatra with some firm advice to toughen up her delivery, and the rest is pop history. The album came out in March 1966 on Reprise, the label her father had founded. Hazlewood produced, Billy Strange arranged and conducted, and the backing came from the Los Angeles session crack squad later known as the Wrecking Crew.
That means Hal Blaine on drums, Don Randi on keys, Plas Johnson on sax and Carol Kaye on bass, with Chuck Berghofer playing the famous sliding double-bass line on the title track; Tommy Tedesco and Al Casey are among the guitarists, and Emil Richards handles percussion. Around it, Sinatra puts her cool, sly spin on "Day Tripper" and "Run for Your Life," a smoky "As Tears Go By," "Flowers on the Wall" and "Lies," plus Hazlewood's own "So Long, Babe."
Sixty years on, the swagger hasn't worn off one bit. We'd suggest suitable footwear for listening, but you already know which kind.
