About the album

Kevin Shields started work on the follow-up to Loveless in 1996, called it half-finished a year later, and then picked it back up when the band reunited in 2006. The last vocals, bass and drums went down in 2011 and 2012, mastering wrapped a few days before Christmas, and in February 2013 the band put it up on their own website, which promptly crashed under the weight of twenty-two years of anticipation.

Shields recorded and mixed it all on analogue tape, with no digital processing afterwards, and it sounds like it: warm, smeared and enormous. "She Found Now" opens in a soft blur and was the one song started from scratch in 2012, "Is This and Yes" floats on organ with no guitar at all, "New You" is the closest thing to a pop single, and "Wonder 2" ends the record in a roaring, jet-engine swirl.

Pitchfork gave it 9.1 and put it fourth on its list of the year. We've had customers wait less patiently for a special order.
