My Bloody Valentine: Loveless (deluxe edition) [DOMINO]

Why you'll love it

Loveless is one of the most influential albums ever made: Kevin Shields' "glide guitar" and swirling layers of sound basically invented the shoegaze blueprint. This is Domino's deluxe edition of the remastered album.

About the album

Kevin Shields spent more than two years and something like 19 studios making Loveless, chasing a sound nobody had ever heard before: guitars bent and smeared with his tremolo arm until they sound like they're melting, buried vocals from Shields and Bilinda Butcher, and drum loops floating underneath. It nearly bankrupted Creation Records, and it was worth it.

"Only Shallow" opens with a roar, "When You Sleep" is a woozy pop song hiding in a hurricane, "To Here Knows When" is pure hallucination, and "Soon" closes the album on a hypnotic dance groove. Decades on, bands are still trying to work out how he did it.
