About the album

Charles Dickens is played by Gonzo, with Rizzo the Rat along as his sceptical assistant, and somehow it's one of the most faithful versions of A Christmas Carol ever filmed. Brian Henson directed the 1992 film, the first Muppet movie made after the loss of his father Jim Henson and performer Richard Hunt, and it's dedicated to both.

Michael Caine plays Ebenezer Scrooge completely straight, which is exactly why it works. Kermit is Bob Cratchit, Robin the Frog is Tiny Tim, Fozzie runs Fozziwig's rubber chicken factory, and Statler and Waldorf turn up in chains as Jacob and Robert Marley. Paul Williams, who wrote the songs for The Muppet Movie, returned to write the songs, among them "Scrooge," "One More Sleep 'Til Christmas" and "It Feels Like Christmas," with Miles Goodman's score tying the story together.

It was the first Muppet film made with Disney, and its reputation has grown every December since. Michael Caine kept a perfectly straight face opposite a cast of frogs and rats, which is more than we can say for our staff when this goes on the shop turntable.
