About the album

Some bands find their footing by settling down. MUNA found theirs by going independent. Katie Gavin, Josette Maskin and Naomi McPherson signed to Phoebe Bridgers' Saddest Factory imprint in 2021, then spent the next year on tour with Bridgers and with Kacey Musgraves, road-testing a set of songs that Gavin said explode in a ton of different directions.

"Silk Chiffon" is the giddy, sunlit opener, an ode to queer love with Bridgers singing along and a video that pays homage to the 1999 cult film But I'm a Cheerleader. "What I Want" is a full-tilt dance-floor anthem, "Anything But Me" is a breezy goodbye with a grin, and "Kind Of Girl" and "Home By Now" turn inward with Gavin's warm, searching vocals. The album is mostly synth-pop at heart, but it nips into country, rock and club music whenever the mood takes it.

Maskin said the point was that someone would hear each song and use it to make a change they needed in their life. That's a big ambition for a pop record, though anyone who has heard "Silk Chiffon" in a kitchen full of friends will tell you it works.
