About the album

Mom Jeans began in early 2014 as two students at UC Berkeley, singer Eric Butler and Austin Carango, whose six-song acoustic demo wound up on cassette. A few lineup changes later, with Counter Intuitive Records in their corner since 2016, they had built a devoted following on Best Buds and Puppy Love, plus split EPs with Graduating Life and with Pictures of Vernon and Prince Daddy & the Hyena. Bart Thompson of Graduating Life and Meet Me in Montauk joined on guitar along the way.

The band started demoing Sweet Tooth in 2019 and took the songs on the road with Hobo Johnson, Billy Bouzos filling in on bass. It finally arrived in February 2022, opening on "Something Sweet" and running through "Hippo in the Water," "Sugar Rush," "Crybaby (On the Phone)," "Anime Theme Song" and "Teeth." It's big-hearted, sing-along emo, with gang choruses and wry lyrics wrapped around some of their sharpest hooks.

Sweet Tooth keeps the band's knack for turning everyday anxieties into shout-along choruses. Given the title and the watermelon vinyl, we'd recommend brushing your teeth after side two.
