About the album

Some bands form in a garage; Mom Jeans formed in a lecture hall. The band began in early 2014 at UC Berkeley with singer Eric Butler and Austin Carango, cut a couple of EPs, and put Best Buds out themselves on July 3, 2016, first on cassette through Northern California's Fourth Row Records. Their earliest demos were just Butler and Carango playing acoustic; by now the band had plugged in, with Josh Perline and then Gabriel Paganin joining along the way.

The songs are short, loud, funny and sincere, all big shout-along choruses and twinkly guitars. "Death Cup" kicks things off at full tilt, "Movember" and "Danger Can't" go for the big singalong, and "Scott Pilgrim V. My GPA" is the sort of title that tells you exactly who these songs are for. Massachusetts label Counter Intuitive signed the band soon after and gave the album a proper vinyl life.

Best Buds set Mom Jeans up for Puppy Love, Sweet Tooth and the rerecorded Bear Market. Not bad going for a band named after a style of trousers.
