About the album

Madonna built Confessions on a Dance Floor like a DJ set, and it plays like one from start to finish. Working with Stuart Price, mostly at his home studio, she put together a seamless run of 1970s disco, '80s electropop and 2000s club music, starting light and getting deeper and more personal as the night goes on.

"Hung Up" opens with a famous ABBA sample and became the most successful dance song of the decade, according to Billboard. "Sorry" gave her a twelfth UK No. 1, "Get Together" and "Jump" were top ten hits around the world, and there are nods to Donna Summer, the Bee Gees, Pet Shop Boys and Depeche Mode along the way. "Future Lovers" and "Isaac" take things somewhere moodier and more hypnotic, and "Like It or Not" closes the set with a little swagger.

The Confessions Tour that followed became the highest-grossing tour ever by a female artist at the time. Two decades on, the disco ball on this record has never quite stopped spinning, and we gave up trying to find the off switch some years ago.
