![John Mayer: Battle Studies [COLUMBIA / LEGACY]](https://cdn.shoplightspeed.com/shops/621399/files/33631654/1652x1652x2/new-vinyl-john-mayer-battle-studies-columbia-legac.jpg)
John Mayer's 2009 album Battle Studies, his No. 1 love-and-heartbreak record: "Heartbreak Warfare," "Half of My Heart" with Taylor Swift, "Who Says" and "Crossroads."
Battle Studies debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, a polished, moody set of songs about love's battles with some of Mayer's finest guitar tones.
Co-produced with Steve Jordan, the album blends shimmering 80s-style pop rock, soft soul and bluesy guitar into a cohesive, late-night study of romance and its fallout.
"Heartbreak Warfare" glows with atmospheric guitar, "Half of My Heart" with Taylor Swift is breezy, "Who Says" is gentle and wry, "Perfectly Lonely" bounces, and his take on Robert Johnson's "Crossroads" is crisp and funky.
