![John Mayer: Sob Rock [COLUMBIA]](https://cdn.shoplightspeed.com/shops/621399/files/38848234/1652x1652x2/new-vinyl-john-mayer-sob-rock-columbia.jpg)
John Mayer's sunny, 80s-tinged 2021 album Sob Rock: "Last Train Home," "New Light," "Wild Blue" and "Shouldn't Matter but It Does."
Sob Rock is John Mayer's lovingly crafted tribute to late-80s soft rock, with silky guitar tones, smooth grooves and some of his catchiest songs.
Co-produced with Don Was, the album channels the warm, glossy sound of the late 80s, from Dire Straits-style guitar to Phil Collins-era production, wrapped around tender songs about longing and regret.
"Last Train Home" is a glorious, keyboard-swept singalong, "New Light" grooves with breezy charm, "Wild Blue" shows off his Knopfler-esque picking, and "Shouldn't Matter but It Does" is a gentle heartbreaker.
