Iron Maiden's Rock in Rio as a remastered 3LP set, recorded live before about 250,000 people in Brazil in 2001, with "The Wicker Man," "The Trooper" and "Run to the Hills."
This remastered 3LP set comes in a trifold jacket, pressed in the EU. It captures the last night of the Brave New World tour, the band's second-largest crowd ever, with Bruce Dickinson and Adrian Smith newly back in the fold.
Iron Maiden had history in Rio: their 1985 Rock in Rio set drew 350,000 people. On January 19, 2001, they came back to close out the Brave New World tour, and with the cameras rolling for a TV audience estimated at over a billion, they decided this would be the next live album and their first concert DVD.
Producer Kevin Shirley recorded it and mixed it in New York with Steve Harris. The set leans on the comeback: "The Wicker Man," "Ghost of the Navigator," "Brave New World," "Blood Brothers," "The Mercenary" and "Dream of Mirrors" sit proudly beside the classics, while "Sign of the Cross" and "The Clansman" get the Dickinson treatment. Then come "2 Minutes to Midnight," "The Trooper," "Fear of the Dark," "The Number of the Beast" and "Hallowed Be Thy Name," with three guitarists, Dave Murray, Adrian Smith and Janick Gers, and Nicko McBrain pounding away.
Dickinson remembered it as "a fantastic way to end the tour." He also admitted to "a little temperamental moment" with a camera parked in front of his catwalk ladder; the camera came off second best, the vocals did not.
