About the album

The title came from Stephen Colbert, who called them God's favorite band on The Late Show in March 2017. He was riffing on Tré Cool, who'd claimed on the Bullet in a Bible DVD that the rain clouds had cleared because God wanted to watch his favourite band again. The album arrived in November 2017, just in time for the holidays.

Dookie gets its due with "Longview," "Welcome to Paradise," "She" and "When I Come Around," and "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" arrives with David Campbell's strings. Petra Haden plays violin on "Hitchin' a Ride," Tré Cool adds accordion to "Minority," and the American Idiot era brings "Holiday" and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams." Rob Cavallo produced most of it with the band, while Butch Vig handled "Know Your Enemy" and "21 Guns." "Oh Love," "Bang Bang" and "Still Breathing" carry the story into the 2010s.

Long-time touring guitarist Jason White plays on "Back in the USA," his first studio appearance with them since the ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, ¡Tré! trilogy. Divine favour is all very well, but it's nice to have a second guitarist too.
