30th anniversary edition of Green Day's 1994 breakthrough Dookie on baby blue vinyl: "Basket Case," "Longview," "When I Come Around" and "Welcome to Paradise."
Dookie sold over 10 million copies in the US alone, won a Grammy and turned three punk kids from the East Bay into superstars. This 30th anniversary edition comes on baby blue vinyl.
Before Dookie, Green Day were a scrappy pop-punk band playing Berkeley's 924 Gilman Street and selling records out of the back of a van. Their major-label debut, produced by Rob Cavallo, kept the snotty attitude and the three-chord rush but added a big, crisp sound, and it landed at exactly the right moment.
"Longview" (a song about being bored out of your mind on the couch), "Basket Case" (about anxiety), "Welcome to Paradise" and "When I Come Around" were all over MTV and the radio in 1994, and the album won the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Performance. Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool brought punk to the mall, and three decades later Dookie still sounds like the best afternoon of skipping school ever.
