Fugazi's 1988 debut EP, seven songs that changed punk: "Waiting Room," "Bulldog Front," "Suggestion" and "Glue Man." 12" EP.
Fugazi's first record opens with "Waiting Room," one of the greatest bass lines in punk, and doesn't let up. It's the blueprint for post-hardcore, and it's still a must for any punk collection.
After Minor Threat and Embrace, Ian MacKaye started a new band in Washington, DC with bassist Joe Lally, drummer Brendan Canty and, soon after, singer and guitarist Guy Picciotto. Their first EP, recorded with Don Zientara at Inner Ear Studios, took the speed and fury of hardcore and opened it up with space, dub-inspired bass and sharp, political lyrics.
"Waiting Room" is the anthem, all stop-start tension and that unforgettable bass line, "Suggestion" takes on sexual harassment with a bluntness that still lands, and "Bad Mouth" and "Glue Man" are pure, focused intensity. Fugazi famously kept ticket and record prices low and never signed to a major. It all starts here.
