20th anniversary 2LP of Green Day's 2004 punk rock opera American Idiot on red and black splatter vinyl, with new artwork: "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," "Holiday" and "Jesus of Suburbia."
On order
American Idiot went to No. 1 in the US, won the Grammy for Best Rock Album and became a Broadway musical. This 20th anniversary edition is on red and black splatter vinyl with alternate artwork.
After 2000's Warning sold disappointingly, Green Day started work on a new album called Cigarettes and Valentines, and then the master tapes were stolen. Rather than re-record it, they started over from scratch with producer Rob Cavallo and came back with something much bigger: a punk rock opera about a disillusioned kid called Jesus of Suburbia, set against the anger and confusion of post-9/11 America.
It was a huge risk, and it paid off spectacularly. The title track is a furious opener, "Jesus of Suburbia" and "Homecoming" are nine-minute multi-part epics, "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" and "Wake Me Up When September Ends" became massive hits, and "Holiday" is pure adrenaline. It topped the US chart, won a Grammy and later inspired a Tony-winning Broadway show.
