The Grateful Dead's 1972 live triple album Europe '72 as a 50th anniversary 3LP set on 180g vinyl, newly remastered by David Glasser.
This 50th anniversary 3LP set was newly mastered by Grammy-winning engineer David Glasser, with audio restored by Plangent Processes, on 180g vinyl with a booklet. Europe '72 was one of the first triple rock albums certified gold, and it has since gone double platinum.
The Grateful Dead's spring 1972 tour of Europe was so expensive that Warner Bros. sent a 16-track recorder along in the hope of a live album to pay for it. Forty-three people made the trip, the so-called Grateful Dead Family, from Wembley through Copenhagen, Paris and Amsterdam to the Lyceum in London.
The album doubles as a collection of new songs that the band never cut in the studio. "Jack Straw," "Brown-Eyed Women," "Tennessee Jed" and "Ramble On Rose" became Dead classics right here, "China Cat Sunflower" rolls into "I Know You Rider," "Truckin'" opens into a long jam, and "Morning Dew" closes the set with a slow burn. Keith and Donna Godchaux make their first appearances on a Dead album, and Ron "Pigpen" McKernan sings his own "Mr. Charlie."
Kelley and Mouse drew the famous cover, a giant foot stepping across the Atlantic and an ice cream kid on the back. It's three LPs of the Dead at full stride, and the best excuse we know for a long afternoon with nowhere to be.
