About the album

Every so often a film song escapes the cinema and moves into every house with a child in it. Disney's 2013 musical Frozen managed it several times over, thanks to songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez and a cast who could really sing. The story, loosely drawn from Hans Christian Andersen's The Snow Queen, follows two royal sisters in the snowbound kingdom of Arendelle.

Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel carry the story as sisters Anna and Elsa, trading "For the First Time in Forever" and its reprise. Bell and Santino Fontana duet on "Love Is an Open Door," Jonathan Groff gives "Reindeer(s) Are Better Than People" its deadpan charm, and Josh Gad's snowman Olaf dreams of "In Summer." Menzel's "Let It Go" is the big one, and Demi Lovato's pop version closes side two. The cast opens the record with "Frozen Heart," an ice harvesters' work song, and Maia Wilson leads the trolls through "Fixer Upper."

The soundtrack spent weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and was the biggest-selling album in America in 2014. Parents will know every word already, so consider this less a purchase than a formality.
