About the album

Robert Zemeckis had one firm rule for the music in Forrest Gump: it all had to be American, because Forrest, as Sill put it, wouldn't buy anything but American. Music producer Joel Sill wanted songs people would recognise instantly, each one pinning down a moment in time, and the result is a road trip through post-war America that you can follow in your own living room.

It starts in the 50s with Elvis Presley's "Hound Dog" and Duane Eddy's "Rebel Rouser," swings through soul with The Four Tops, Wilson Pickett and Aretha Franklin's "Respect," and lands in the 60s with Creedence's "Fortunate Son," The Mamas & the Papas' "California Dreamin'," Buffalo Springfield, The Doors and Simon & Garfunkel's "Mrs. Robinson." The 70s bring Harry Nilsson's "Everybody's Talkin'," Three Dog Night, The Supremes and B.J. Thomas, before Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama," Willie Nelson's "On the Road Again" and Bob Seger's "Against the Wind" take it home.

Alan Silvestri's "Forrest Gump Suite" closes the set. Life may be like a box of chocolates, but this one comes with a printed tracklist, so you know exactly what you're going to get.
