About the album

Fall Out Boy began as a side project. Pete Wentz, a fixture of the Chicago hardcore scene, started it with Joe Trohman, who met Patrick Stump at a bookstore in Wilmette; Andy Hurley sat in on a session at Smart Studios and stayed. Their first show was in a cafeteria at DePaul University, which is a humble start for a band that would go on to fill arenas.

Back at Smart Studios in Madison, Wisconsin with Sean O'Keefe, they cut seven songs in nine days, sleeping a few hours at a time on a friend of a friend's floor, then added three from the demo. Wentz picked over Stump's lyrics line by line, and the result is pop-punk with hardcore urgency: "Grand Theft Autumn / Where Is Your Boy," "Saturday," "Dead on Arrival" and "Sending Postcards From a Plane Crash (Wish You Were Here)."

Alternative Press called it a "subcultural touchstone," and a five-day stint on Warped Tour 2004 helped spread the word. The cover shows the four of them on a broken futon with a blue tint borrowed from old jazz records, so this blue jay pressing is, in a sense, colour-coordinated.
