About the album

Five years is the longest Deftones have ever made people wait between albums, and they spent it well. After 2020's Ohms the Sacramento band reunited with producer Nick Raskulinecz, who had steered Diamond Eyes and Koi No Yokan, and brought touring bassist Fred Sablan into the studio to co-write and play on a Deftones record for the first time. It came out on August 22, 2025, through Reprise and Warner Records.

The sound sits where alternative metal meets shoegaze: huge, hazy guitars, Abe Cunningham's heavy swing and Frank Delgado's textures under Chino Moreno's floating voice, with Moreno playing more of the guitar parts than usual. "My Mind Is a Mountain" and "Milk of the Madonna" led the way, and DIY said "Metal Dream" takes Moreno back to the verge of nu metal rap with an ever-mesmerising chorus. Rich Costey mixed it.

NME's Andrew Trendell called it a gift for fans old and new and decided their peers can't touch them. Every song title is in lower case except "cXz," which we've decided not to ask about.
