Creedence Clearwater Revival's 1970 album Cosmo's Factory, with "Travelin' Band," "Up Around the Bend," "Lookin' Out My Back Door" and an 11-minute "I Heard It Through the Grapevine."
This US-pressed reissue brings back CCR's biggest album. It spent nine weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, went 4x platinum, and all three of its double-sided singles reached the top 5 of the Hot 100.
The name comes from a warehouse in Berkeley. John Fogerty had the band rehearsing there almost every day in the early years, and drummer Doug "Cosmo" Clifford took to calling it the factory. The album that carries its name arrived in July 1970, recorded at Wally Heider Studio in San Francisco and produced by Fogerty himself.
Most of the singles were on the radio before the album hit the shops: "Travelin' Band" backed with "Who'll Stop the Rain," "Up Around the Bend" with "Run Through the Jungle," and "Lookin' Out My Back Door" with "Long as I Can See the Light." Around them sit "Ramble Tamble," a seven-minute swamp-rock workout, Bo Diddley's "Before You Accuse Me," Roy Orbison's rockabilly hit "Ooby Dooby," Arthur Crudup's "My Baby Left Me," and a long, smouldering take on the Motown standard "I Heard It Through the Grapevine."
Rolling Stone placed it at No. 265 on its 2003 list of the 500 greatest albums, and it topped album charts in six countries. Clifford called the rehearsal room a factory, and judging by the output, nobody was clocking off early.
