Creedence Clearwater Revival's 1970 album Cosmo's Factory, half-speed mastered at Abbey Road on 180g vinyl for its 50th anniversary, with "Up Around the Bend" and "Who'll Stop the Rain."
This 50th anniversary edition was half-speed mastered at Abbey Road Studios, pressed on 180g vinyl in Germany and housed in a replica tip-on jacket. Cosmo's Factory spent nine weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and also topped the charts in the UK and Canada.
Every great band needs a clubhouse, and Creedence had a Berkeley warehouse where John Fogerty had them rehearsing almost daily. Drummer Doug Clifford, known to the band as Cosmo, started calling it the Factory, the name stuck, and the album that came out of it in July 1970 is about as close as rock gets to a greatest hits record made in one go.
Six of its songs were singles, and all of them reached the top five of the Hot 100: "Travelin' Band," "Who'll Stop the Rain," "Up Around the Bend," "Run Through the Jungle," "Lookin' Out My Back Door" and "Long as I Can See the Light." Around them, the band tears through Roy Orbison's "Ooby Dooby" and Bo Diddley's "Before You Accuse Me," opens with the rolling "Ramble Tamble" and stretches "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" into an 11-minute jam.
It went four times platinum in the US and joined the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2014. John Fogerty produced and arranged the lot, apparently on the theory that rehearsing every day works; we've tried it with the stock room and can confirm it does not apply to alphabetising.
