About the album

Coldplay usually make albums in one place. For Everyday Life, producer Dan Green set up a mobile studio and the band went looking for sounds around the world, building a double album in two halves, Sunrise and Sunset. Some of it dates right back to 2009, when "Arabesque" was first started and set aside for the right moment.

The result is one of the most adventurous records they've made. "Church" weaves in a qawwali sample from Amjad Sabri, "Cry Cry Cry" borrows the songwriting of Bert Berns and Jerry Ragovoy for a warm doo-wop sway, and "Arabesque" swings on horns and an Afrobeat groove. "Orphans" is a bright, bouncing single, "Champion Of The World" soars, and the title track closes on a gentle, hopeful piano hymn. "Daddy" and "Old Friends" are as quiet and tender as anything in their catalogue, and longtime collaborators Rik Simpson, Bill Rahko and Davide Rossi are all in the mix.

They premiered it with a sunrise and sunset performance from the Amman Citadel in Jordan, broadcast around the world. It's a fine thing to own on vinyl, partly for the music and partly so you can finally say you've been to Amman for sunrise without setting an alarm.
