Clint Mansell's industrial score for the 2005 film Doom as a 2LP set, in a gatefold jacket with a fold-out poster and new artwork by Micha Huigen.
This 2LP set comes in a gatefold jacket with a fold-out poster and brand new artwork by Micha Huigen. Mansell's score swaps the orchestra for pounding electronics and guitars, closing with his remix of a Nine Inch Nails song.
Before he scored films, Clint Mansell fronted Pop Will Eat Itself, and it shows. When Andrzej Bartkowiak turned the famous video game into a film with Karl Urban and Dwayne Johnson, Mansell answered with a score built from industrial clatter, grinding synths and heavy guitar rather than strings.
"Doom (Main Title)" sets the tone, "Olduvai / Facing Demons" and "Containment Breach" build dread, and "BFG!" and "Mac Attack!" go full tilt. The titles follow the film's story from the Olduvai research base on Mars through to the final showdown. "First Person Shooter" nods to the game's famous point of view, and the set closes with Mansell's remix of Nine Inch Nails' "You Know What You Are?", a fitting tip of the hat to Trent Reznor, who mentored him in his early film years.
Mansell went on to Requiem for a Dream fame and beyond, but this is his loudest work by a distance. It also counts as the one Doom soundtrack you can play without having to save your progress first.
