Celine Dion's 1990 English-language debut Unison on crystal clear vinyl: "Where Does My Heart Beat Now," "(If There Was) Any Other Way" and the title track.
This crystal clear edition comes with a booklet of lyrics and photos. Unison won the 1991 Juno Award for Album of the Year, went seven times platinum in Canada, and "Where Does My Heart Beat Now" reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100.
CBS first offered $25,000 to put English vocals over an existing French album. Then a duet with Dan Hill, a Juno Awards performance of "Have a Heart" and the interest of David Foster changed minds, and the budget for Celine Dion's first English-language record climbed to $600,000. It turned out to be money well spent.
Sessions ran in London, New York and Los Angeles with four producers. Christopher Neil took four songs, including "The Last to Know," while Foster, Tom Keane and Andy Goldmark shaped the rest, a polished mix of soft rock and dance-pop that puts Dion's voice front and centre on "If Love Is Out of the Question," "Love by Another Name" and "I Feel Too Much." In Canada, four singles reached the Top 40, and "Where Does My Heart Beat Now" spent two weeks at No. 1 on the Adult Contemporary chart.
Dion introduced the big single to the world at Eurovision in 1989 and made her first American TV appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson in September 1990. Charlemagne, Quebec to Carson's couch in well under two years is what's known in the trade as a decent commute.
