About the album

Andrew Stockdale was a photographer, Chris Ross worked in digital media and Myles Heskett was a graphic designer, and after a few years of jamming they named the band after a phrase in Tom Robbins' novel Skinny Legs and All. Their first gig was at the Vic in the Park, a Sydney pub, in April 2004; a few months later Modular signed them, and an international deal followed.

They made the album in California with Dave Sardy, who went for the raw feel of their live shows over a flawless take, adding Lenny Castro on percussion and Dan Higgins on flute. The riffs are enormous and gloriously 70s: "Dimension" and "Woman" hit like a wrecking ball, "White Unicorn" builds slowly, "Mind's Eye" was the first single, and "Joker & The Thief" went top ten at home. Side D brings "The Earth's Rotation Around The Sun," the acoustic "Vagabond" and remixes by Loving Hands and MSTRKRFT.

It spent 78 weeks on the Australian chart, went five times platinum there and won the first J Award from Triple J. A band named after a novel and sounding like a van full of 1971; somebody, somewhere, filed it under literature.
