About the album

Jack Tatum started Wild Nothing as a bedroom project in Blacksburg, Virginia, and turned heads with a cover of Kate Bush's "Cloudbusting." Two albums later he wanted more room, so in January 2015 he headed for Stockholm to start recording Life of Pause, with Thom Monahan producing and Jacob Portrait adding production.

The result is warmer and roomier than the dreamy guitar pop of Gemini and Nocturne. "Reichpop" opens the record with shimmering, pulsing patterns before blooming into a pop song, "To Know You" and "TV Queen" arrived together as a double-sided single with a video each, and "Lady Blue" and "Japanese Alice" glide along in a soft-focus haze. Tatum writes, records and performs the records himself, bringing in a full band for tours, and here he sounds like a songwriter enjoying every extra colour the studio gave him.

Captured Tracks have been his home from the very first single, and this edition treats the album accordingly. Tilt the lenticular cover back and forth for long enough and you'll find it's also a fairly effective way of avoiding the washing up.
