Turnover's 2015 dream-pop turn Peripheral Vision on clear orange vinyl, with "Cutting My Fingers Off," "New Scream" and "Humming."
This clear orange pressing includes a double-sided lyric and credits insert and a download code. Peripheral Vision is the album where the Virginia Beach band traded pop punk for hazy dream pop, and it reached No. 4 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart.
Every so often a band makes the record that splits its story into before and after. Turnover had started out as a pop-punk group from Virginia Beach, and by the time new guitarist Eric Soucy arrived they were ready to either make a real leap or wind things down. They chose the leap, heading back to producer Will Yip's Studio 4 in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania.
Austin Getz had been listening to a lot of late-70s and 80s music, and it shows: the guitars shimmer, the tempos relax and the vocals float. Much of the ambient drone comes from an Electro-Harmonix Superego pedal that the band had barely touched on their first album and now used everywhere. "Cutting My Fingers Off" and "New Scream" were the first songs out of the gate, "Humming" and "Dizzy on the Comedown" are the dreamiest of the lot, and "I Would Hate You If I Could" was the first step away from their old sound.
Getz said they never planned to make this kind of record, which is a good reminder that a guitar pedal can change a band's whole life. A decade on, they toured it to play the album in full for the first time.
