About the album

Tommy Guerrero spent the 1980s as one of Powell Peralta's Bones Brigade, skating the streets of San Francisco alongside Tony Hawk and Steve Caballero in videos like Future Primitive and The Search for Animal Chin. He went on to co-found Real skateboards with Jim Thiebaud, play in punk bands Jerry's Kids and Revenge, and quietly turn into a gifted multi-instrumentalist with a laid-back soul sound all his own.

Recorded at homes and other spots around 2000 and 2001, Soul Food Taqueria builds on his guitar soul with more polished production and a wider spread of instruments, drifting through bossa nova, samba, cumbia, folk, funk and soul over easy, loping beats. "Organism" later turned up in the video game Tony Hawk's American Wasteland, "It Gets Heavy" features vocals from Gresham Taylor, and "Abierto," "Tatanka" and "Falling Awake" roll by like a long afternoon in the Mission. ESPO made the artwork.

Collectors have been hunting for it ever since, and it has aged into the kind of record that sounds right in any room, at almost any hour. It suits a Sunday morning and a skate session equally well; we've tested the first one extensively.
