Tina Turner's 1991 greatest hits Simply the Best as a 2LP set, from "The Best" and "What's Love Got to Do with It" to "River Deep, Mountain High."
This 2LP set follows the UK double LP running order in a gatefold jacket with photo inner sleeves. Simply the Best is Tina's biggest seller in the UK, at 2.1 million copies and more than 140 weeks on the chart, and it has sold over 7 million worldwide.
Comeback stories usually get one good chapter. Tina Turner's got a whole double album. Simply the Best gathers the run of hits that began with Private Dancer in 1984, when she went from rebuilding her career to filling stadiums, and tops it up with fresh recordings from 1991.
"The Best" opens, followed by her take on Ann Peebles' "I Can't Stand the Rain," "What's Love Got to Do with It" and a smouldering "Let's Stay Together." "Typical Male," "Steamy Windows," "Private Dancer" and "We Don't Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)" keep the pace up, "Addicted to Love" comes live from London in 1987, and "River Deep, Mountain High" is the original 1966 Phil Spector production. The new songs all became singles: "Way of the World" reached No. 13 in the UK, "I Want You Near Me" No. 22 and "Love Thing" No. 29, along with a '90s dance version of "Nutbush City Limits."
Roger Davies, the manager who steered the comeback, served as executive producer. Put "The Best" on in the shop and someone at the counter will start singing; we've learned to let them finish.
