Thin Lizzy's 1976 breakthrough Jailbreak on 180g vinyl in a die-cut sleeve: "The Boys Are Back in Town," "Jailbreak" and "Cowboy Song."
This 180g German pressing keeps the original die-cut sleeve. Jailbreak went gold in Canada, the US and the UK, and "The Boys Are Back in Town" won the NME Award for Best Single of 1976.
Thin Lizzy had been grafting for years before Jailbreak, and in early 1976 it all clicked. Producer John Alcock recorded them at Ramport Studios in London over the winter, and the band came out with the record that broke them in America and made them a fixture of rock radio for good.
Phil Lynott's songs are full of tough guys and big-hearted romantics, and Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson's twin lead guitars give them wings, with Brian Downey driving it all from the kit. "The Boys Are Back in Town" is the eternal Friday-night anthem, the title track prowls on Robertson's wah-wah, "Cowboy Song" rides straight into it, and "Emerald" closes with a Celtic battle charge. "Warriors" and "Romeo and the Lonely Girl" show both sides of Lynott in one go. It was the band's commercial breakthrough in the US, and the one Thin Lizzy album to go gold there.
The album peaked at No. 10 in the UK and No. 18 in the US, but Canada sent it all the way to No. 5. We've always taken that as a compliment to our collective taste.
