About the album

Pop punk bands usually come out of the garage at full speed, and The Story So Far, from Walnut Creek, California, were no exception. By their third album, though, Parker Cannon and company had learned the value of a little space, and this self-titled set sounds tighter, moodier and more confident than anything they'd made before.

Producer Sam Pura recorded it at Panda Studios in Fremont, California, and kept everything lean: ten songs, no filler. "Heavy Gloom" went to radio as the lead single, "Nerve" came out early to whet appetites, and "Smile," "Solo" and "Phantom" pair Cannon's ragged, heartfelt vocals with big, chiming guitars. "Stalemate" closes things on a slower, bruised note.

Blending elements of punk rock and pop punk, The Story So Far's self-titled album is a captivating listen. Reissued in 2024, it shows off the band's musical talents and their sharp, heartfelt songwriting, and it belongs in the collection of anyone who loves the genre. Pure Noise pressed this one on Laguna Eco Mix vinyl, which is the first colour name we've seen that makes us want to book a holiday.
