The Fratellis' 2006 debut Costello Music on 180g vinyl, a numbered limited edition, with "Chelsea Dagger," "Henrietta" and "Whistle For The Choir."
Music On Vinyl presses this numbered limited edition on 180g vinyl. Costello Music debuted at No. 2 in the UK, spent 83 weeks in the top 100 and has sold more than 1.1 million copies there.
A month after a talent scout caught their first gig in a Glasgow basement, record labels were flying up to Scotland to see the Fratellis. Island won, and flew the trio to Los Angeles to make their debut at Sunset Sound with producer Tony Hoffer, using the studio's vintage gear. They named the album after the rehearsal room they rented back home in Budhill.
It's a rowdy, singalong record, full of story songs. "Henrietta" opens at a gallop, "Flathead" bounces, "Whistle For The Choir" is a sweet, swaying ballad, and "Chelsea Dagger," which Jon Fratelli says is about a showgirl, became the big hit at No. 5 in the UK. Slant Magazine praised its infectious raucousness, and NME noted that nearly every track tells a story, with "Henrietta" spinning a tale of an older woman pursuing the narrators.
The band won the 2007 BRIT Award for Best British Breakthrough Act and toured it through Europe, America and Japan. "Chelsea Dagger" has also spent years as the Chicago Blackhawks' goal song, so a good few hockey fans in North America can sing the chorus without the faintest idea who wrote it.
