About the album

Sweet as candy on the surface, a little wicked underneath: that's the Cardigans' magic, and First Band on the Moon is where the world caught on. "Lovefool" was everywhere in 1996, helped along by Romeo + Juliet, and it still sounds like the sunniest heartache ever pressed to wax.

Producer Tore Johansson and guitarist Peter Svensson wrap Nina Persson's cool vocals in bright, clever arrangements; "Been It" bites, "Your New Cuckoo" swings, and "Heartbreaker" sneaks in a quote from Black Sabbath. Then there's the band's lounge-pop take on Sabbath's "Iron Man," which is as delightful as it sounds.

By 2010 it had sold around 664,000 copies in the United States. A little twee, perhaps, and none the worse for it.
