Tears for Fears' 1985 blockbuster Songs from the Big Chair: "Everybody Wants to Rule the World," "Shout," "Head over Heels" and "Mothers Talk."
Songs from the Big Chair topped the Billboard 200 and gave Tears for Fears two US number ones, "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" and "Shout." A towering 80s pop record.
Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith teamed with producer Chris Hughes to make a richer, more ambitious record than their debut, blending synth-pop with big guitars, jazzy flourishes, soaring melodies and thoughtful lyrics.
"Everybody Wants to Rule the World" is effortlessly perfect, "Shout" is a massive, cathartic anthem, "Head over Heels" is lush and romantic, and "The Working Hour" and "I Believe" show off their sophisticated, jazz-tinged side.
