Small Faces' 1967 Immediate album, remastered in mono on 180g vinyl, with "(Tell Me) Have You Ever Seen Me," "Green Circles" and "Get Yourself Together."
This limited edition presents the album in mono, remastered on 180g vinyl. It was the band's first album for Immediate, produced by Steve Marriott and Ronnie Lane, and it reached No. 12 on the UK Albums Chart.
Two albums called Small Faces in thirteen months would confuse anyone, so let's be clear: this is the second one, the June 1967 record that marked their move to Immediate Records and their turn from mod R&B towards psychedelic studio pop. Steve Marriott and Ronnie Lane produced it themselves at IBC and Olympic Studios in London, with Glyn Johns, George Chkiantz and Eddie Kramer at the desks.
Marriott and Lane wrote nearly everything and shared the singing. "(Tell Me) Have You Ever Seen Me" opens with a fuzzed-up rush, "Green Circles" drifts into gentle psychedelia, "All Our Yesterdays" swings on brass, and "Show Me the Way" is baroque pop at its prettiest. "Get Yourself Together" is a tough little rocker, "Happy Boys Happy" an instrumental romp, and Ian McLagan gets his turn at the mic with his own "Up the Wooden Hills to Bedfordshire." Kenney Jones keeps the whole thing moving with the snap of a band who grew up in the clubs.
AllMusic gave it five stars, many fans call it their best, and Paul Weller put it in his all-time top ten; The Jam even covered "Get Yourself Together." A nod from Weller is, in our experience, the closest thing Britain has to an official seal of approval.
