Slowdive's 1992 compilation Blue Day on 180g blue & white marbled vinyl, limited to 2,000 copies, gathering the shoegaze pioneers' first three EPs.
Music On Vinyl presses Blue Day on 180g blue & white marbled vinyl, limited to 2,000 copies, in a jacket with a special alubrush finish. It collects the cream of the early Slowdive, Morningrise and Holding Our Breath EPs, including "Avalyn 1" and "Morningrise."
Before Souvlaki, before the long break and the much-celebrated comeback, Slowdive were a young band from Reading making a very large, very beautiful noise. Blue Day, first issued on Creation Records in 1992, gathers the songs from the three EPs that introduced them, and it's where the washed-out guitars and Rachel Goswell's ethereal vocals first came together.
The self-titled "Slowdive" and the hypnotic "Avalyn 1" were recorded at The White House, the rest at Courtyard Studios. "Morningrise" and "She Calls" build slow walls of shimmer, "Losing Today" glows, and "Shine" and "Albatross" close things out in a haze of reverb, with Neil Halstead and Goswell's voices blending into the guitars.
These early songs set the template for a sound that bands are still chasing decades later. It's music to stare at your shoes to, though we find a comfy chair works just as well.
