Slipknot's 2008 fourth album All Hope Is Gone as a limited 2LP set on orange vinyl, with "Psychosocial," "Dead Memories" and "Snuff."
This limited orange 2LP set spreads the album across four sides. All Hope Is Gone was Slipknot's first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and went platinum in the US.
After three albums made in Los Angeles, Slipknot decided the city had too many distractions and went home. In February 2008 they set up at Sound Farm Studio in Jamaica, Iowa, with producer Dave Fortman, and for the first time all nine members wrote together, piling up more than 30 songs before trimming them down.
The result was the most varied record they'd made to that point. "Gematria (The Killing Name)" and the title track bring the death metal edge, "Psychosocial" marches like an army with nine members in step, and "Sulfur" and "Butcher's Hook" hit hard. Then "Gehenna" slows into something trippy and slow-burning, while "Dead Memories" and "Snuff" show the band's more melodic, sentimental side, with Corey Taylor singing more than screaming. Lyrically it takes on anger, obsession and the music industry.
They took it around the world and headlined the Mayhem Festival, and it was the final album by the classic Iowa line-up. Taylor drove home every night of the sessions to see his son, which is the most reassuring thing we've ever learned about a man in that mask.
