Silverchair's 1997 second album Freak Show on red & black marbled vinyl, limited to 4,000 numbered copies, with "Freak," "Abuse Me" and "The Door."
Music On Vinyl's edition is 180g red & black marbled vinyl, individually numbered, in a linen-laminate sleeve with a lyric poster and the vinyl exclusive "Punk Song #2." Freak Show reached No. 1 in Australia, went gold in the US and gave the band three Top 10 singles at home.
Silverchair made Freak Show while their debut Frogstomp was still flying off shelves in Australia and the US, and they used the moment to go bigger. Producer Nick Launay, known for his work with Midnight Oil and The Birthday Party, helped them broaden the grunge of the first record into something heavier and stranger. The band wanted to do something different, and by Chris Joannou's account it just happened naturally.
Daniel Johns named it after the travelling sideshows of the 1940s, comparing them to life in a band that rolls from town to town putting on a show. "Freak" hits like a hammer, "Abuse Me" swings between hush and howl, and "The Door" became the fourth single. German magazine Rock Hard singled out "No Association," "Learn to Hate" and "Roses" for praise, and "The Closing" brings the curtain down.
Drummer Ben Gillies said it was just more fun to make than the first one. Joannou was also pleased to report that the bass is louder this time, which we consider a ringing endorsement from the man best placed to know.
