![Ryuichi Sakamoto: async (2LP) [MILAN]](https://cdn.shoplightspeed.com/shops/621399/files/60319626/1652x1652x2/new-vinyl-ryuichi-sakamoto-async-2lp-milan.jpg)
Ryuichi Sakamoto's luminous 2017 album async on 2LP, his first solo album in eight years: "andata," "solari," "fullmoon" and "Life, Life."
async is a deeply moving, meditative late-career masterpiece, made by Sakamoto as he returned to music after recovering from illness.
Sakamoto imagined async as a soundtrack to an imaginary Tarkovsky film, blending piano, strings, organ, field recordings, found sounds and electronics into textures that are both delicate and vast.
"andata" is a beautiful, hymn-like opener, "solari" glows with tender melancholy, "fullmoon" layers readings of a Paul Bowles passage, and "Life, Life" features David Sylvian reading a poem by Arseny Tarkovsky.
A deeply moving, meditative late-career masterpiece. Quiet, and deeply felt.
