Daft Punk's 1997 debut, the record that launched French house: "Da Funk," "Around the World," "Revolution 909" and "Burnin'." On 2LP.
Homework is where Daft Punk began, and "Da Funk" and "Around the World" became club anthems around the world. It charted in 14 countries and kicked off the whole French touch movement.
Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo made Homework in Bangalter's bedroom in Paris (hence the title), and it sounds like it: raw, loose, loud and a whole lot of fun. The robot helmets came later. Here they're just two kids obsessed with Chicago house, Detroit techno and old funk records, cranking the filters until the speakers rattle.
"Da Funk" and "Around the World" are the hits (the latter repeats its title 144 times, and somehow never gets old), but the deeper cuts are just as good: "Revolution 909," "Rollin' & Scratchin'" and the Chicago tribute "Teachers," where they name-check their heroes. It's the record that kicked off French house, and nearly 30 years on it's still a guaranteed party.
