![Roxy Music: Avalon (half-speed master, gloss-laminated finish) [VIRGIN]](https://cdn.shoplightspeed.com/shops/621399/files/46294694/1652x1652x2/new-vinyl-roxy-music-avalon-half-speed-master-glos.jpg)
A half-speed mastered 180g pressing of Roxy Music's 1982 swan song Avalon, with "More Than This," "Avalon" and "Take a Chance with Me."
Avalon is Roxy Music's silky, sophisticated farewell, credited with inventing sophisti-pop, and a half-speed master is the perfect way to hear its lush production.
Some bands go out with a bang; Roxy Music went out with a silk scarf and a cocktail. Avalon, their eighth and final studio album, was recorded at Compass Point Studios in the Bahamas, and every note sounds like it was polished by the ocean breeze.
Bryan Ferry, Phil Manzanera and Andy Mackay turned their art-rock past into something smooth, dreamy and impossibly elegant. "More Than This" is one of the great romantic singles, a top-ten hit in Britain, the title track glides on Yanick Étienne's wordless vocals, and "Take a Chance with Me" and "The Space Between" shimmer and sway.
It went to No. 1 in the UK, which seems a fitting way to take a bow.
