![R.E.M.: Murmur (180g) [I.R.S.]](https://cdn.shoplightspeed.com/shops/621399/files/68503754/1652x1652x2/rem-murmur-180g-irs.jpg)
R.E.M.'s 1983 debut Murmur on remastered 180g vinyl, with "Radio Free Europe," "Talk About the Passion" and "Perfect Circle."
Murmur is the debut that launched college rock, ranked No. 165 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums, now on remastered 180g vinyl.
Nobody could quite make out what Michael Stipe was singing, and that was half the magic. R.E.M.'s debut arrived in 1983 from Athens, Georgia, sounding like nothing else on the radio: mysterious, jangly and utterly beautiful.
Producers Don Dixon and Mitch Easter caught it all in Charlotte, North Carolina over the winter of 1983. "Radio Free Europe" rushes in on Peter Buck's chiming Rickenbacker, "Talk About the Passion" and "Perfect Circle" are achingly lovely, "Pilgrimage" and "Catapult" ripple with Mike Mills' melodic bass, and Bill Berry's drumming ties it all together.
Rolling Stone named it album of the year over Thriller and War. Still a thing of wonder.
