About the album

R.E.M. followed the blockbuster Out of Time with a quieter, richer and more reflective record, full of strings arranged by Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones, acoustic guitars, mandolin and some of Michael Stipe's most moving vocals.

"Everybody Hurts" has comforted millions, "Man on the Moon" is a joyful tribute to Andy Kaufman, "Nightswimming" is achingly beautiful, "Drive" is haunting, and "The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite" is pure fun. A true masterpiece.
