About the album

R.E.M. had already conquered college radio and arenas by 1991, but Out of Time took them stratospheric. They decided not to tour it, swapped some of the jangle for mandolins, strings and organ, and let Michael Stipe's voice ring out over some of the loveliest songs they ever wrote.

"Losing My Religion" is the one everyone knows, "Shiny Happy People" (with Kate Pierson of the B-52s) is pure fun, "Near Wild Heaven" is Mike Mills' sunny moment in the spotlight, and "Country Feedback" is a favourite of Stipe's own. KRS-One even turns up on "Radio Song."
